A New Intellectual Beginning

The literal meaning of the Ace of Swords is often, "out of something bad, something good comes."  This card depicts a new beginning or chapter to do with thoughts, logic, intellect and the mind.  Often this card will appear when someone has come to a logical conclusion, after deeply thinking about a situation or problem and applying common sense.

The Ace of Swords truly represents a moment of absolute "clear thinking" and vision.  Its about being able to put conflicting emotions and personal feelings aside long enough to truly see a situation for what it is and use the power of intelligent thought and logic to be your guide.

This card is represented by a two edged sword, because doing this can be quite a painful process.    It takes great strength to be cool, calm and logical in the face of feelings, emotions and personal desires;  but to do so truly clears the vision allowing a person to truly look around them and see things in an unbiased manner;  seeing people for what they really are, or what their personal agenda's really are, for example, can be confronting, hurtful and unpleasant.

However the reward for having this maturity and strength of mind to apply intellect to a situation and not allow the mind to be clouded by emotions is knowledge of the truth.

This card can also appear when a person is about to begin studying or schooling of some kind.
