The Purpose Of Chakra Meditation
Its well known that meditation is extremely beneficial to our daily life. It relaxes and renews us and helps us achieve balance in our hectic schedules. Taking time for ourself is often hard to do, but well worthwhile. Learning to meditate can be tricky and take time, but with patience and persistence, a person can become extremely adept at relaxing their mind and body at will and visualising any scenario that suits them.
The seven major chakras in the body all correspond to different psycho-physical characteristics, behaviours and spiritual development; so meditating on the chakras has many tremendously positive effects on the mind body and spirit. In keeping our chakras healthy and well balanced, we enhance balance in our every day lives.
Meditation
Lie down and relax the body, using any meditative routine that you normally use. When you are ready to begin your chakra work:
Concentrate on seeing your first chakra - the Root Chakra. Say its Sanskrit name to yourself as you bring it into your thoughts - Muladhara. Visualise it in the centre of your body, at the bottom of your spine, in the rectum area. Visualise it as a bright red slow-spinning orb of light; like a glowing round Christmas decoration. There are faint lines through the chakra; like the spokes through a wheel. You can see them as they are spinning. As it begins to crystalise in your vision, examine it; how does it look? does it appear too big, or too small to you? use your instinct. Adjust the size to one you are comfortable with. Is it bright, or dull? Dirty? As you turn it in your minds eye, imagine cleaning it reverently and carefully and bringing it to a gorgeous bright red glow. When you are totally happy with how it looks, visualise yourself looking down onto the top of the chakra, through the body; and lightly spinning it a bit faster to "open," using your mind. As it spins, red light begins to pour out of your chakra and upwards through your body, and downwards into the legs and feet.
Next, move on to your second chakra - the Sacral Chakra. Say its Sanskrit name of Svadhistana as you bring it into your thoughts. Be aware of a low warm tingling feeling in your lower spine from your open root chakra, and the red light permeating upwards around your Sacral chakra. Visualise it in the centre of your body, directly sitting above your root chakra, roughly where the uterus is in a woman, in the lower stomach area for a man; its a bright orange spinning orb of light, spinning slightly faster than the root chakra; there are faint lines through it, like the spokes of a wheel. Like last time, examine the chakra; use your instinct; is it too big, too small? Clean, dirty, dull, bright? adjust it and clean it to what you are comfortable with; then when you are happy with it, imagine looking down on top of the chakra, through the top of the body, and lightly spinning it faster with a nudge of your mind, as you did before, to "open" it. As it spins faster, a bright orange warm glow begins to pour forth from it, suffusing up through the body, combining with the light of your root chakra.
Now picture your third chakra - the Solar Plexus Chakra. Say its Sanskrit name of Manipura as you bring it into your thoughts. You are aware of a delicious warm flowing feeling from your two lower open chakras; you feel happy and deeply relaxed and earthed. Manipura sits in the centre of your body, level with your naval; its a gorgeous bright yellow spinning orb of light, spinning slightly faster than the Sacral chakra was before it. The faint "spokes" you can see through it are almost a blur as this chakra is spinning at a higher vibrational level than the other two; as before, examine carefully and reverently the size and appearance of your chakra; adjust accordingly. When you are happy with it, imagine looking down through the top of your body, down onto your Solar Plexus Chakra, and using your mind to spin it just a bit quicker so that it "opens". As soon as you do so, warm effusive yellow light beams upwards through your body, joining the free flowing light of the root chakra and the sacral chakra. As you feel this energy suffusing you, you may be aware of tickling pleasant warmth through the body, and a slightly dizzying feeling; this occurs as the energies courses through you, and as you rise up through the frequencies of the chakras.
Next, move up to your fourth Chakra, the Heart Chakra; say its Sanskrit name of Anahata as you bring it into your visualisation. Its in the centre of your chest, a bright green spinning orb of light, spinning so fast its "spokes" are blurred. As before, carefully and leisurely examine the heart chakra; check its size, cleanliness, brightness; use your instinct to bring it into balance with your other lower chakras. By now you may be feeling a little distracted because of the whooshing, tickling, very pleasant sensation rushing up from your root chakra through your body. Take your time and do not rush things, give as much time to these higher chakras as you did to the lower. Picture yourself looking down on top of the heart chakra, through the top of your body, and use your mind as before to spin the heart chakra even faster so that it "opens". As it does, warm green light pours forth filling your chest, rushing up into your shoulders and down your arms, up through your head; and your aware of the energies of the other chakras rushing to meet and meld with that of the heart chakra. Concentrate on your breathing, and on remaining earthed, as you may feel like you are being "swept away" by the sensations of your chakras being opened; take a few moments to adjust to this higher frequency before moving on, just breathing and visualising all the chakras in the body, in a straight line, spinning at slightly faster momentums the higher they go in the body, the light pouring forth from each into the body.
Concentrate now on your fifth Chakra, the Throat chakra; and as it comes into your visualisation welcome it with its Sanskrit name of Vishudda. Its in the centre of your throat, right where your Adams Apple is. Its spinning extremely fast, as this chakra is high up in psychic vibration; you feel a sense of heightened awareness each chakra you visit. This one is like a gorgeous glowing glass ball of light, in a marvellous light blue colour - like a blue topaz. As you have with your other chakras, examine it reverently; carefully balance its size and alignment with your other chakras in the body, and clean it til it glows warmly and crisply. When your satisified, spin it open. As soon as you do, pale blue light pours forth up through your neck, face and head; and your aware of the energies from your other chakras flowing through the throat chakra and up through your head also, combining with the energy of the throat chakra.
Now move up to the sixth chakra, your Third Eye. As you bring it into your vision say its Sanskrit name of Ajna. It looks like a violet ball of glowing glass in the centre of your forehead. Its spinning extremely fast, so that its "spokes" cannot be discerned; you may be aware of a feeling of disorientation or dizziness and find it more difficult to concentrate as you are now on a very high vibrational level of awareness. You feel a warmth between your eyes and like before, carefully examine this chakra and adjust its size and clean it; as before, when your done, touch it with your mind to "open" it; brilliant violet light immediately fills the isnide of your head and begins to flow back downward into the body, its energy rushing to meet that of the other chakras you've opened. Take a few moments to quietly enjoy the sensation; and bring the third eye chakra into your vision; look carefully; visualise now, that it is an eye. It is open? fully? partially? or perhaps blinking? As you look at it, imagine it opening fully to look at you. As it does, stare into your third eye and experience a moment of divine connection with your higher self.
Last one - move up to your Crown Chakra, and as you bring it into your visualisation, say its Sanskrit name of Sahasrara. Its a gorgeous deep inky purple glowing ball in the very top of your skull. (Note: some people seem to see this chakra as pure white. If you seem to see this chakra as white rather than purple then go with it.) This chakra spins faster than them all - faster than the eye can discern; as before, concentrate on bringing it into the size and alignment you instinctively feel is right, and clean it carefully. Using the will of your mind, nudge it "open". As soon as this occurs, brilliant purple light immediately bursts out through the top of your head in a widening arc; the energies of your other chakras surge upwards to mingle with that of the Crown, and also spill out through your skull, out into the universe to become one.
