The Strength To Walk Away

The Eight of Cups shows that someone is walking away from a situation or a person, certainly emotionally, perhaps physically too.  They have worked hard at the relationship or the situation, and put so much of themselves into it;  but it never bore the fruits they thought it would, never brought  the satisfaction they expected.  So, in spite of all their hard work and emotional effort, they have reached the painful decision that this is getting them no where, and has become a negative in their life:  so they choose to walk away.

Whatever it is they have turned their back on, they are leaving with a heavy heart and regrets.  However, they also know that this is the right thing to do for them.  It is not necessarily a person;  it could be a job, where they live, or a project they have been working on for example; studies; a financial venture;  it could be any number of things that they have decided to drop, stop, cancel, or leave, either actually or emotionally;  this can only be determined by the other cards in the reading.

Relationships

When the Eight of Cups appears in a relationship reading it clearly means that someone has already decided to leave the relationship or at least distance themselves emotionally.

Reversed

The Eight of Cups reversed means that someone is fully aware that they should leave a person or a situation, but are hanging onto the past and refusing to acknowledge the truth or move forward, out of fear of change.
