What Is Meditation?

Meditation is simply the art of relaxing the mind.  So many of us today lead such busy lives that we forget how important it is to just take time to be alone with ourselves and allow ourselves some "me" time.  Everyone meditates in different ways, and even for different reasons.  Some people meditate simply to relax and chill out; others do it for psychic development.  Anyone can meditate, and there are untold ways to do so.  You can meditate in any way you like.  Some like to "empty the mind" and simply focus on thinking nothing at all and deep breathing.  Others meditate on something specific, like a prayer, a person, an image, or an idea; and still others again imagine amazing places where can and experience very life like visions.

What's The Point Of Meditating?

The purpose to meditation is untold, and completely individual.  Here are some examples:  Some people meditate to:  totally relax the mind:  To exercise the mind, with imagination; to gain calmness; to get more adept at visualising; to have mystical experiences; to connect with angels, or spirit guides; to clear the chakras; to revitalise oneself; to pray; to honour the self; To listen deeply to the inner self; and many more.

How Often Should I Meditate?

Its best to meditate on a daily basis for optimum results.  However, its a good idea for a beginner to start slowly.  Often it can be extremely difficult to calm the racing thoughts we have.  When first trying to meditate, try to do so for just ten minutes a day.  As this becomes easier and easier to do, then the time periods can lengthen.  Meditating for 30 minutes to an hour a day can have amazing affects on how a person feels; calmer, stronger, and more in touch with their intuition and feelings.
